Notes: | Corinth Notebook Page: NB 132, spread 46 (pp. 84 - 85) Pg. 85, I 1390 = I 2180, a block with inscription Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos noted the stone in 1415 (cf. W. Miller, The Latins in the Levant, p. 377 f.). At that time it was built into a part of Justinian's Isthmian wall, the famous Hexamilion, not far from Kenchreai. It was still in situ in when it was observed b P. Moncreaux. Within in the next decade, it was removed to the city hall in New Corinth. First found in the sanctuary of Poseidon at Isthmia and taken to New Corinth, 1883. Found in the ruins of the old Demarchia at New Corinth after the earthquake of 1928, by R. Stillwell (cf. NB132, P085) in June 1934. Now in the courtyard of the Corinth Museum; moved to Isthmia Museum July 20, 2005. Inventoried Sept. 24, 1939; inventoried twice by mistake as I-1390 and I-2180. | |
