Stratum:   Fill abuts west side of wall that divided B39 & NB 977 B45. 3 glazed (light green) tiles stood on N side. B44 come from below B39.
Notes:   B44 was distinguished from B39 because the soil of B44 was more compacted. Soil was dark reddish-brown w/ 20% inclusion moderately well sorted. 1/3 box red-painted plaster, glass, and ca. 1 box pottery was recovered. B44 was stopped due to a change to redder soil with more inclusions. This lower layer was later dug as B47. Originally it was thought that B44 overlaid the corner of the wall but this was later shown not to be the case.
