Stratum:   Fill N of B44 and abutting a small northern section of the eastern wall. In the NW corner, it abuts wall 278. On its S side stood B42, which covered a portion.
Notes:   B45 has a low inclusion rate (10%) of medium pebbles. In compacted silty sand, reddish brown in color. Sorting was poor. B45 was removed because it was apparent that a portion of it stood above B44. We attempted to understand the extent of B44. Large pottery chunks were found as well as some charcoal from its S side near B44. Small finds include: bits of broken glass, a bronze chunk a few mm in diameter, bone fragments, and a marble disk. B44 was stopped due to a soil change. This new soil was determined to be previous to that of the compacted, reddish-brown dirt with a high inclusion rate that ran to the W of the eastern wall (later B47, see also B46). Our attention therefore turned to the south end of the trench.
