Stratum:   Removal of the last remaining part of a baulk (NB 971, B 68) just west of wall 289. This fill is in relation to Pit 2005-01
Notes:   The soil is moderately sorted and contains pottery, bone and a little bit of glass, charcoal and pieces of fresco. We stopped Basket 1 when there was a noticeable change in color and the soil was more compact. The stratum is a firm, dark reddish brown silty earth with 30% pebbles and only a few cobbles. Found bones, plaster and glass. See previous page for top plan.
