Corinth Basket: NB980 B89 P183
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   NB980 B89 P183
Area:   Panaghia north
Category:   Basket/zembil
Notebook:   980
Context:   89
Page:   183
Date:   2006/06/25
Stratum:   light brownish brown, loose, 10% fine-coarse pebbles, poorly sorted coarse sand
Notes:   This basket is for the removal of the stone/tile feature in the SE corner. The earth is not strikingly different from the surrounding earth of B88, but is a bit softer and with fewer inclusions. The elements of the feature are simply floating, with mortar remnants visible between some, but not all, stones and tiles. One stone at the W end seems to have rolled S into the feature's interior space; it has two more or less flat sides and likely stood upright, aligned with adjacent stones. Some stones are definitely worked; others are less clear. Aside from the horizontal tile at the E end, there is no sort of floor. One coin was recovered from the earth at the center of the feature. The earth at B89's bottom, reached after a little scraping following removal of the feature, is basically the same as that at the bottom of B88 (which was stopped only for removal of the stone/tile feature). The earth on the E side of the trench below both B88 and B89 will be dug as a single basket. It should be noted that some reddish brown patches are evident at the S end of the E side of the trench. Stone/tile feature: top of vertical tile: 91.63; top of lowest stone: 91.31
