| Notes: | After cleaning out the grave cuts better, we continued excavating the fill from Basket 20 with the objective of leveling the area. The area of the grave emerging from the northern scarp was left alone. The fill is a loose brown soil continuing from B 20 without differentiation, except many small finds in the area of the graves suggest pieces from other, earlier graves (?) may have been disrupted and mixed in the fill. 7-6-06. Work continues to lower the fill to an even plane with bask 18. Some (human?) bones from the grave on the N. balk were loosened and we collected them in a box. Tasos Kakouros is excavating the area just to the north to explore the limits at the grave (see basket 22, p. 48). After leveling the area, we encountered a hardened patch of soil with large fragments of tiles and cobbles; also patches of smaller stones (small cobbles) at about 20%. It was roughly circular and could be a pit (doubtful) so we are closing this basket to explore the feature. In the NW corner of the area is a large stone, perhaps on the line of wall 294. | |
