Stratum:   Clay-rich fill with debris immediately above destruction. Reddish brown silty sand, with 10% small cobbles, bits of lime, charcoal and some (<10%) roof tiles, red and green clay mud-brick fragments.
Notes:   With this basket we are taking the relatively compact fill exposed by basket 28 which is moist distinguished by its contents at red mud-brick pieces (these are deep red in copmarison to the soil, and chunks up to 10 cm across) from the mixed fills above (B28 and higher). Also the clay content of B 30 is generally higher.\\We began a big pick pass in areas where small-picking the clayey soil to the point where it either was denigrated by red and green mud-brick fragments as well as angular cobbles and large flat-lying tiles. There is no noticeable ash or charcoal here, although the clay suggests a considerable quantity of mud-brick was below, mixed with other building debris.
The basket ended on a sloping fill at very high muc-brick-like deposits with very little charcoal or lime and almost no stones on the surface. The fill above peeled off elsewhere to reveal flat-laid rubble (stones, tiles) and a straight-running group of stones resembling a wall. All these were embedded in the mud-brick soil.
We closed the basket in order to isolate the clayey fill below with many mud-bricks. Although the same soil runs around the debris, we are leaving the debris in the hopes of exposing a destruction layer over the whole trench.
