Stratum:   Pit with animal bones. Loosely compacted brownish brown silty sand, ca 30% small cobbles, cobbles, many bones.
Notes:   We expanded the area to the north again, to N978, since more workmen were available today. First we are digging the rest of a Byzantine pit full of large animal bones and cobbles which we had left from B24 but obviously continued down in the scarp. The pit extends down for a considerable distance and its composition varies slightly, with heavier debris at the bottom of 50-70% small cobbles and roof tiles, with bones not being such a substantial component.
-19/06/06- In the morning, several rapid big pick passes were mistakenly taken over an extended area, including the reddish-brown "garden" fills the pit is cut into (similar to Bask 25 to the south). We closed the basket at the bottom of the pit and near that level to the east and west in the garden fills. We also left a protective balk along the south edge to prevent contaminating the earlier, lower floors to the south. The balk was removed 20-6-06.
