Notes: | The purpose of this basket is to excavate the small grave cut found in B4 and isolated in B5. Immediately after this trench was begun the bone fragments of a young child came to light. Some of the bones are unarticulated but as work progresses some articulated bones have been found. A bronze pendant was uncovered in the west end of the grave that will be photographed. The coordinates of the pendant are E 412,54 / N 976,14 / H 92,00. Some skull fragments have also been found in the W end. Thanos Webb estimates that then age of the child between 6 months to 2 years but the entire skeleton is not yet uncovered. The entire B will be sieved through either a fine mesh or by water sieve. A second bronze object has been found. It is either a pierced coin or another medallion/pendent. Both bronze items have been left in situ for photographing. The medallion was found at E 412,50 / N 976,13 / H 92,02. The skeleton is badly decomposed and very fragile but there is articulation. Orientation of the skeleton is east-west with the head at the east end. The right side of the child is better preserved than the left. Excavation of the west end of the cut however does not reveal but a few possible fragments of a skull. The two bronze object may have been lined up on the child's throat. Excavation of the skeleton will be completed 31 May 2006 After removing a much soil as possible, the bones were removed. A flat stone is placed to the right of where the head would have been. It is unclear if this is just a flat stone or if it was placed purposefully. Also on the north side of the grave cut an iron nail was found. This may be part of the grave or it may come from the surrounding fill. | |
