Stratum:   Area below stone console. Loosely compacted reddish brown silty sand. 20% inclusions: large pebbles, occasional small/med cobbles, tile fragments.
Notes:   This basket contains the material directly below and around the stone console. After the removal of the console the area was still above the leel of the stratum where stones rested against the console's W end. We are taking the area down to that level (ca. 90,80) to make sure we have removed all construction fillls of the console. The coin came from below the console. It seems the console was built by dropping stones onto a small hump of earth. There are two large "orthostate" -like slabs upended on the west and east sides, and then lots of clayey earth between the gaps. (The stones were just schisty flat unworked slabs.) Then cobbles, some angular, some round, were stacked up onj the top and the north and south edges. Finally, the B72 cobbles were set along the boottom edg--presumably to stabiltize the foot--and later (immediately later?) the fill was brought up onver this footing to roughly 90,94. Thus the cobble stone console could be a crude base for a table, probably contemporary with the hearth.
