Stratum:   Fill. Light yellowish brown, coarse grain weakly cemented. 20% inclusions poorly sorted. Medium to coarse pebbles. Clayey sand.
Notes:   Basket 97 was excavated as a small rectangular area east of basket 96; two floating well cut blocks (one showing rustication decoration on one side) appear within the middle of the basket. The area was excavated inits shape because the area directly south of Basket 97 was at a lower elevation as was the bottom of basket 96 to the west. The goal of basket 97 was to determine whether a floor surface or a mix of large inclusions, both of which were noticed in basket 96, continued towards the east. We noticed right away that basket 97 had far fewer inclusions than did basket 96. One small find of note was a small so-called 'baklava tile.' The hard packed surface noticed at the eastern edge of Basket 96 continued to be found at the same level throughout the entire basket 97. This hard packed surface may be related/associated with the Roman tile-lined pool located directly to the east. Pictures were taken at the end of Basket 97 that showed the bottom of basket 96.
