Stratum:   Mixed fill west of pit 2006-4. Dark yellowish-brown, loose, 20% inclusions, moderately sorted pebbles and cobbles
Notes:   Excavation of the darker area in the mixed fill west of pit 2006-4. This area has a slightly diferent soil type as well as an increased amount of carbon. This area continues under the west edge of the trench. Very little bona and shell was found in this layer, and there was no painted wall plaster. We found slightly more pottery and tile than in previous baskets of the fill. The darker area of basket 58 revealed two different soil types at three different levels beneath it (points given in top plan of basket 59). The southern third has a very large percentage of pebbles and cobbles, while the northern two-thirds is identical in composition to the stratum of basket 56. Two relatively large pieces of floating stone were removed from the bottom of the basket. These stones were roughly 15-20 cm wide and 5-7 cm thick. They appeared to have no worked faces.
