Notes:   Pass to remove the fill north of W 297 to explore the possibility that this cutting is related to the foundation trench of W 297. This basket revealed a small amount of pottery and no small finds. We closed this basket when we came across a compact layer of soil similar to that we reached at the close of basket 37. It is unclear at this point whether this cutting is in fact for a foundation trench and we will continue to explore this area in a later basket.
