Stratum:   40%; ceramic sherds, tile, fine and medium pebbles, grass
Description:   Top slope of the context is steep down to the E. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context appears to be the fill of an earlier depression, which was cut by Cuts 870 and 871. The area was exposed since last year.
Since it lays on top of the baulk surrounding cut 871, it is alter than the surrounding soil. We removed this context so that we can proceed with taking down the baulk itself, in order to relate this exterior space with the interior of the Turkish house to the north.
We found a coin and a part of a lamp in this context. The fill also comprises of quite a bit of small stones and tile.
We stopped digging when we came down upon light greyish soil, which seems to be overlaid by the baulk south of the Turkish house and is also visible in the western scarp of cut 870.
We took bottom elevations for the context, because the total station was not working properly and we had to reset it in the middle of the morning.

Upon examination of the pottery and stratigraphic relationship, we believe that this dumped fill cannot date to the Late Roman period, but should be dated to the Middle Byzantine, as the layer directly below it is currently dated to Middle Byzantine period, the layer above it was Late Byzantine, and the current context was cut by a large Middle Byzantine pit 870. Perhaps this is a dumped fill of soil containing earlier material.
