Stratum:   10%- large round small pebbles, ceramic sherds, tile, shell, glass, iron nails, bone
Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the S. The soil color is dark yellowish black. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We started excavating this levelling fill, which was exposed since last year, in order to understand the activity outside of the later Turkish house so that we can relate the strata inside and outside of it. This context is immediately south of the house and is cut by pits 495 and 871. The deposit was disturbed by root activity in the northern part, one thick root (2cm in diam) seem to go down below this context.
A coin was found in this layer, as well as iron nails, sherds, glass and a lamp fragment.
The deposit is quite thick, and therefore Thanasis decided to dig it in two passes, each 5-10cm deep, in order not to disturb the layer underneath. After the first pass, a dense fill of tile became visible in the southern edge of the context and the pit 495. Thus, this context seems to be laid against the tile fill.
We closed the context at the top level of the tiles, even thought the soil below the fill seems to be the same. Thanasis wanted to remove the tile fill first in order to see how deeply yhe current deposit continued.
We took bottom elevations for the context, because the total station was not working properly and we had to reset it in the middle of the morning.
