Notes:   Alicia Carter
This feature is being recorded as part of a plan to apply to have some walls removed in this part of the site in order to reveal the 11th century phase of a house for public display. This feature was revealed by excavations in 1961 recorded in NB 230/235. This feature was not given a wall number in 1961. This feature is ca. 0.20m wider than all other walls in this part of the site-this suggests to me that it is not a wall but had some other structural function. Its foundations and superstructure at its south end are not well-finished, suggesting that some part of this feature was disturbed after it went out of use. Perhaps it was a pillar of some kind or a structural element of a staircase. The cuttings on the top surface of the large squared limestone block at the south end of the feature look like threshold cuttings but it seems likely that this block was not a threshold at the time it was reused in this feature because of the orientation of the cuttings does not allow for enough space for a door between the cuttings and wall 10091.
