Notes:   Alicia Carter
This threshold is being recorded as part of a plan to apply to have some walls removed in this part of the site in order to reveal the AD 11th century phase of a house for public display. This wall was revealed during excavations in 1961 recorded in NB 230 and 235. It was likely considered the same as wall #74 (NB 235, pg 24). The current state of preservation of this feature is poor. The threshold survives as a single block with cuttings on the upper surface to accommodate a door jam. The threshold was pedistalled during excavation atop a segment of wall-the rest of which is not currently extant though it appears on Travlos' plan as continuing east to meet wall 10105 and westwards to met wall 5741. The threshold is bonded to the wall below with yellowish clay mixed with roof tile fragments. This is the same as the threshold bonded atop wall 10097 to the east. Both thresholds are at a similar elevation and are likely contemporary. The two thresholds were probably left in situ (even pedestalled) to preserve a visual reference of floor level for this phase of use of this structure-post-dating the 11th century phase.
