Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the SE. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We opened this context to continue investigating the area behind the Turkish house in the hope of understanding how the interior and exterior relate to each other. The context is laid against the wall of the house in every area except the small, semi-circular depression near the SE corner exposed in context 1013 and dug as 1030. The context produced some pottery and an iron nail.
We paused digging after removing two passes to remove the fill of the hole against the Turkish house, although the fill below this context remains the same as that removed with this context- dark, yellowish brown filled with small pebbles. We then continued digging this context, which had quite a few fragments of tile and small cobbles in it, as well as small fragments of mortar. The high content of tile might be related to the composition of the layer underneath it, which consists of a dense fill of broken tile. We closed this context upon reaching the tile layer in most of the western side of the context. In the east we came down upon a firmly packed surface to the west of pit 870, and another layer of yellowish brown soil to the north of the pit., excavated as 1031.
