Notebook:   1107
Context:   1030

Date:   2013/04/11
Stratum:   20%; tile, ceramic sherds, small bits of charcoal
Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the N. The soil color is light brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This context is the fill of a small, semi-circular cut against the wall of the Turkish house. It was exposed at the bottom of 1013, but its full extent became more apparent during the excavation of 1028. We paused the excavation of that context in order to remove the fill of the pit, because it was clear that the pit cut 1028 and the fill was therefore later than it. The fill included a few pottery sherds and some tile fragment.
The cut is semi-circular in shape, the north side is laid against the Turkish house, and the W and E scarp had been cut through a layer of broken tile, which runs under context 1028. At the bottom of the pit there is a compact greyish brown soil with some rocks, but their size and arrangement cannot be discerned at the present. We stopped digging the current context once we hit this layer. We will continue digging the levelling fills to the south of the cut first.
