Stratum:   pebbles, tile, ceramics, loomweight and plaster
Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   This is a roughly L shaped context that was revealed in the excavation fo 1099. We are exavating this to determine if it is a cut or simply a separate context from 1101. The soil of this is very loose and pebbly. It is darker thant he surrounding area. It is tile rich and relatively clayey. There are also several large cobbles in this fill. Additionally, plaster bits and a large loomweight were found. We are taking a seond pass at this area and it is becoming clear that this context goes all the way east to wall 1007.
Some large cobbles were removed from the area directly west of wall 1007. A cement block 128.5x 2-.76 x 11.5 was removed from the south edge of the area (perhaps for a water feature). It is smoothed on 1 side with what looks lie a rounded lip. After excavting ca. 20 cm of this context, Paanos noted that this soil was not cut in or dpeosited prior to the rest of the east trench context 1101. Rather context 1101 is over top of this layer. To cmolicate matter sfurther, the west edge of 1098 is different from the layer bleow 1084. We can not determine at this point the exact chronology of deposition. As a result, we will thoroughly clean this area to decide where to proceed. We also discovered a separate layer immediately west of 1007 a possible foundation trench.
