Lot:   Lot 2013-017
Stratum:   40% tile (5-10 cm, quite large chunks), ceramic pottery, glass, slag, carbon (wood and seeds)
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven down to the SW. The soil color is dark brownish red. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   27/5/13 This is the "buffer area" left during session 1 to ensure that context 1080, the large tile deposit, was uncontaminated by material from cut 1040 (represented by context 1136). Like 1080, 1143 has copious tile, pottery, and other cultural material. A nearly intact lamp came from midway into the context, as well as a piece of pebble floor.
28/5/13 This morning Thanasis finished the final few buckets of the tile deposit. There was less tile in this lower layer, but abundant bone and carbonized material, including wood and seeds, were found.
We exposed a hard surface to the north and west of the context which appears the same as the area exposed by 1080. At the SE is a more rocky, looser fill which may continue into cut 1040, and at the very south, a quite loose, yellower soil which also seems to continue east into the cut.
The tile depost continued around the corner fo the Turkish house, but only a little remained, presumably cut by the robbing trench C1040.
