Notes:   Context 1153 was revealed by the removal of the limey reddish floor S 911. It is a densely-packed floor (or sub-floor) consisting of moderately well-sorted, large (5-10 cm), unfinished cobbles. With the small pick and at times the large pick, Thanasis loosened and removed the cobbles and swept up the loosened soil as the excavation of this context. We found a few potsherds, tiles, and plaster intersperced among the cobbles.
The removal of the cobbles exposed a hard-packed surface that may be a bedding layer for the cobbled floor above. At the southwest edge we unearthed a clear line of rocks and tiles (5-10 cm) lying flat, extending E-W for about one meter.
The cobbles of this structure seem to have been bound together with hard plaster which came up in chunks during excavation; it was also adhered to the cobbles and tiles which constitute the matrix of the floor or subfloor.
