Type:   Basket
Name:   Nezi Field, context 1168
Area:   Nezi Field
Title:   Leveling fill confined by Walls 5334 and 746
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1107
Context:   1168
Page:   0
Date:   2013/06/01
Stratum:   Small stones (coarse pebbles), bones, pottery (mostly fineware), tile, slag, glass, composing ca. 30% deposit.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   1168 is probably a leveling fill, overlaid by possible floor 1141. This light reddish brown fill contained ca. 30% inclusions of small size (small fragments of tile, small pieces of fineware pottery, and small stones). We initially thought this deposit covered the entire area confined by walls 5334, 746, 851, and 1138 (being cut by 1166 foundation trench), but as the workmen began excavating, 1168 showed only to extend 1.90m south of wall 5334, with a more compact deposit abutting it at the south. Ca. 20 cm below the top of 1168 at ca. 85.90H, two different contexts appeared below:
1170: another light reddish brown deposit with slightly more clay than 1168, & 1179
____:
As the dump fill of 1170 and the leveling fill 1168 are so similar in composition and inclusions, perhaps they were part of the same episode (e.g., 1170 was dumped and 1168 represents a levling of this dump fill).
