Description:   Structure materials: packed earth. Material size: N/A. Material finish: N/A. Material construction: N/A. Material bonding: N/A.
Notes:   This floor of hard-packed, clay-rich, light yellowish grey soil underlies deposits 1151, 1169, and 1188, all of which were likely dump or levelling fill operations that occurred after the floor went out of use. Wall 1154 on the west and wall 5484 on the north appear to be contemporaneous with it, as the floor runs up against them and no cut for a foundation trench is evident along either wall. Walls 1155 and 5435 postdate the floor, and it looks like the surface may continue underneath them. Several ashy deposits in the SW corner of the area excavated appear to be small, one-time events rather than a hearth or frequently-used cooking area..
The floor will not be excavated, as the probability of recovering many interesting finds or sherds is low.
20/6: Based on the pottery dates from contexts 1151 and 1169 which overlay it, we are assigning a tentative date of Early to Middle Roman to this context (probably 2nd century or earlier).
