Stratum:   mostly pebbles and pottery, some bits of tile, some small cobbles 30%
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is light greyish yellow. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   We open 374 to remove a clay floor. This floor seems to have been in use with walls 305 and 306, and was cut by robbing trench 304 (the robbing trench for wall 305), and the small pits 352, 354, and 357. The floor (374) goes over wall 365, and therefore postdates this wall.
As Panos removes this floor, he comes down on another floor just below, on the E end of the floor. As he continues to dige towards the W, this scond floor no longer shows up underneath. Instead, we encounter a darker, softer fill. This floor surface is overall particularly thick and clayey, though it is thinner toward the N than toward the S.
30/5/2008 (JR): After sweeping and further examinations, it seems that we only have one floor surface everywhere. It is a very thick surface, which made us beliee initially it was actually two, one on top of the other. However, there is no true seperation, but rather just one very thick floor. This might indicate that this floor was resurfaced numerous times, but we connot see those resurfacings as distinct actions in the stratigraphy.
Once we have fully removed this floor, we have at least two different contexts below. First, there is a patch of red-clayey soil that looks like a surface, but is isolated and small in extent. Everywhere else, we have a looser, darker fill, at times containing cobbles or tiles. We will need to further define these latter soils before excavating them.
2/6/08: Wall 305 has a plastered face on its N side at the leve 374 abuts it. Below 374, however, there is no plaster. This is perhaps suggestive of two phases of wall usage.
3/6/08: HM: 374 laid on 387; 387 is looser and darker than 374.
374 laid on 389; 389 is looser and redder than 374.
