Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   417 is a soft dark greyish red silty sand with large abounts of ash and carbon, lesser amounts of tiles, ceramics, pebbles, shell and bone. There are also roots present that are fairly recent (not carbonized).
This dumped layer of pit fill wraps aroung the edges of the pit but for the S side, where a much firmer dark whitish yellow layer projects out from the edge beyond the N edge of wall 420. Although at a higher elevation by 10cm, the harder patch runs at least partly beneath the soil of 417.
To the E of the harder patch a very pure yellow clay is revealed, upon which the harder patch directly sits. This clay is visible beneath the hard patch on the W side as well.
Another layer of dark soft soil is visible around the edges of the pit beneath 417.
