Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clay.
Notes:   Context 473 is a patch of yellowish clay at the NE corner of the remains of wall 470. The soil is compacted and hard and is clearly different from the surrounding soil. It also contains a number large rocks, which might suggest that this is partly the remains of the destruction / robbing of wall 470. The area to the E and S of this deposit is a bit of a puzzle for us, containing a number of mixed soil deposits. We hope excavation of this layer will help clarify the various soil deposits nearby.
Panos has come down on two different types of soil with the removal of the clay. S of the large stones he has come down on a softer, darker brown soil and N of the stones he has come down on a light, hard brown soil. Both soils are laid on the large stones, so they must be laid on a lower stratum of soil.
