Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Pit fill deposit 508 is the fill of a pit revealed by the removal of a lense of slumped fill 507. It appears that the cut, for which deposit 508 fill, was made through the fill of a larger pit from which 2 lenses of slumped fill in addition to 507 (505, 506) have already been removed. The oval cut filled by deposit 508, which cuts through a limestone block, is reminiscent of a well cut, though this should become clearer as excavation of the fill continues. The animal bone inclusions in this deposit show very little weathering and may indicate a later date of deposition. Excavation of fill deposit 508 continued until a soil change; the removal of the pit/well fill deposit 508 revealed a subsequent fill with more carbon inclusions. It is decided to change the context and procede with the excavation of the second from the top pit/well fill 509.
