Stratum:   Inclusions consist of tiles, pottery, and stones. Stones are varied, ranging from fine pebbles to cobbles, all shapes and degrees of roundness. 30%
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We are excavating a pit on the southwestern end of our area, which is cut by a wall to the south and the scarp along the west. The soil is dark reddish brown, coarse, and loose. The soil is filled with tiles and pottery fragments, stones, and some bones. There is some disruptive root growth in tis context. This context is distinguishable by its many large inclusions. We found two pieces of charcaol, one being roughly 3 by 1 by 1.5 cm. Among the inclusions ae some marble revetment fragments.
The total weight of the tiles is 70.6 Kg. This is the tilepile mentione din the notes of context 5163.
There seems to be soil between this pit and th foundation trench to the west, which will be able to act as a martyr preventing contamination of the area.
April 10, 2008: we continue taking the pit, which seems to continue along the wall. The tiles seem to be random fragments without joins. A figurine of a horse is found near the wall. The softer soil seems to end, coming down to clean soil to the north and different soil with many inclusions near the wall (15-20 cm.). This could be a founation trench. We stop at this point.
