Stratum:   Tiles, pottery, marble revetment, and pebbles of all sizes and shapes. 25%.
Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the W. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We are excavating an apparent pit deposit along the south wall (Wall 5215) of our area. This deposit is very similar to that which we excavated at context 5171 and seems to have been deposited in context 5175 (cut). The relationships described above only became clear whicle we were excavating context 5177, a deposit on the southwest portion of our area, along the scarp on the west. The deposit is just west of context 5171 (deposit) and 5175 (cut).
By removing this context, more of a possible foundation trench for the wall to the south of our area has appeared. It runs along the north face of the wall, 0.25 from the wall face. Also a new part of the Turkish House walls seems to abut the south wall of our area at 1020.3N, 261.9E, 84.78El.
The deposit seems to be completely finished now. In our current estimation, 5177 and 5183 touch, but it is unclear how they interact. Both, however, are situated above what appears to be the same reddish brown layer.
