| Description: | Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is mixed. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | A martyr was left around a trench dug on the east end of the Byzantine court of the 1961 house. The martyr is L-shaped extending westward from the middle of the entryway and then turning 90 degrees and heading south into the wall alongside the western-most set of stairs. Our aim is to excavate this martyr down to the level of the Byantine court, recording what stratigraphy remains after 47 years of exposure to the elements. The top layer of soil was removed to a clear break above a red soil layer that extended throughout the majority of the martyr. Around the bend of the L-shaped martyr, a thin black layer was revealed with bone fragments immediately above it. There was an abundance of tile fragments scattered throughout the layer removed in the cleaning. Next, we will tackle the red layer. Additionally, there were several plants whose root systyem seems to have disturbed several layers of the martyr. On April 16th, the area under the eastern wall was cleaned. | |
