Notes:   (refer to context 5191 for excavation of martyr from 1961 excavation)
This black deposit was a distinct layer beneath the cleaning context 5191 and the red soil context 5233 below. The black deposit was concentrated around the bend of the L-shaped martyr and covered roughly 1/3 of the red layer beneath it. This loamy layer was most likely due to the plant activity because several large roots penetrate into the martyr around the center of the black layer. Additionally, several horizontal channels of the black soil were identified, spreading outwards from the area of the roots toward the south. However, the presence of several bone fragments immediately above the black layer might suggest some ashy component to this deposit. Also, a handful of tiles were scattered on the black layer.
