Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This layer exists for a meter length at the south end of the martyr. The top of this layer was at roughly the same elevation as the red layer, which covered the rest of the martyr, however, it is seperated from the red layer by a small east-west channel of black soil (no context number) interpreted as root intrusion. Underneath this layer was a small deposit of reddish soil, which we initially thought to be the same as the reddish soil that prevails to the north (5233), but later decided that it was a distinct deposit (5231). Additionally, the northern-most point of this layer overlies the southern-most point of the blue layer, which has been revealed under the red layer (context 5233). The reason for this distinct deposit at the south end of the martyr is unclear because the area being excavated is only ca. 1.000 X .0.30m. We lack context for our interpretation.
Refer to context 5191 for excavation of martyr from 1961 excavation.
