Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We are trying to determine the use of the Northern semi-circular cut and the relation of this tile and stone layer to the rest of the floor levels. From scarps on N and E we can see the stones on E rest on an older (much harder) floor level, but are unsure about how the layers connect on either side of this structure. The soil is light and clayey on the top, but very loose and silty below without inlcusions. Between the stones there is no visible mortar, but only the aforementioned loose silty soil. On the west, the roof tiles ended in a layer of soil which was without roof tiles and darker. After excavation and comparison with surrounding contexts suggests that 5255 is a leveling fill for a floor level above, which was cut into by 5239.
