Description:   Top slope of the context is steep down to the S. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context 525 is the excavation of the pit fill of cut 526. The pit is located in the room bounded by walls 313 to the east and 332 to the west. Context 525 was revealed with the excavation of 523 and actually followed the same slope. The northern side of context 525 and the northern side of cut 526 were obscured by contexts 521, 522 and 524. With the excavation of these three contexts we were able to identify cut 526 and the northern limit of context 525. Pit cut 526 is cut into, and therefore postdates, the cut filled by 509, 519 and 520 (cut 527).

This morning we continued the excavation of context 525. While digging the fill changed; it contained more rooftiles and clay but we did not take it out as a separated context. While digging this context we noticed another cut on the SE side, which seems to be further in than the walls of cut 526. We think that at the SE side we overdug the wall of the pit a revealed a different cut. It is possible that this different cut is associated with an earlier pit into which cut 526 was cut. We noticed that the cut for this earlier pit seems to continue along the north side, following the line of the cut 526. We are not sure about the western extent of this earlier cut (cut 528).
Also there is a change on the walls of pit cut 526. At the lower part of the south side the walls consist of a matrix with medium sized rooftile fragments and ash inclusions whereas the fill at the same elevation consisted of less tiles and more clay inlcusions. On the west side it seems that we still have the cut 526 continuing deeper.
We decided to close this context. We think that we accidentally dug through the bottom of cut 526 but this led us to the discovery of the walls of an earlier pit (cut 528). We are still unsure about the dimensions of the earlier pit but we are fairly certain that fill 525 abd cut 526 are cut into an earlier pit and they seem to share the same north boundary.
