Stratum:   Inclusions: mostly medium and some coarse cobbles, subrounded, mostly spherical (7%); carbon (2%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is well sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We have moved to a new area, to the west of where we have been digging. After sweeping the area we took top elevations and are removing a floor that was found in 2007 underneath a layer of dumped destruction debris (5096). It was thought to be dumped and not in situ because of the size and orientation of the tiles.
We are removing a very thin layer of hard clay floor (we must use a pick to excavate), revealing another floor below.
The floor is cut by the pits/holes in the east. The pit along W23 extends eastward and also cuts the floor, so it is earlier. We are leaving a small baulk of floor here to keep the contexts separate. Later note: Actually, this is wrong. When we removed the baulk, we realized that the softer earth went under it. So the floor is later than the trench along the wall, which we will dig next as 5323. It looked like it cut, but the floor actaully ended before reaching the wall.
In the center is perhaps another hard floor layer but with more inclusions.
