Stratum:   Fine to large pebbles, angular tabular. 20%. Also, cobbles, tile.
Description:   The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are digging the E-W robbing trench abutting the E-W wall on its east side. The fill contains several cobbles. Some root growth and charcoal. This trench represents that of one of the walls that cuts into the northern extension of Robbing Trench 5510, if 5510 does in fact reach this far north. This trench cuts into the soil deposits to its north and south. It may extend farther west, but the soil to the west, at a higher elevation is being worked by the green team. We wll leave a martyr at the western juncture to prevent contamination. As we move down in elevation, we encounter more stones from the wall that was robbed out. These are on the east side of the trench. To the west, there is a mixture of cobbles and tiles; they are also perhaps part of the wall, but this wil not be certain unless we dig deeper.
Because the robbing trench 5549, filled by deposit 5545, cuts the bottom of the robbing trench for the N-S Wall 71, the E-W wall 5463 can be said to be an earlier feature, and that part of this wall was robbed out before Wall 71 was built.
