Stratum:   20% inclusions: roof tiles, some pottery, beer bottle fragments. Soil is a mixture of humus as well as light greyish brown is parts.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is mixed- see description.
Notes:   We are excavating this backfill for two reasons 1) to remove back fill so as to avoid contaminating the fill in pit 5629, 2) and to find the northern edge of pit cut 5629. In order to be certain that all possible contamination from the 20th cent excavations was removed, some of the fill of pit 5629 was also excavated.
In retrospect, this removal of backfill should have preceded the excavation of fill 5614. Since it was not, the fill will have more than one context number (5614, 5662, and 5700).
At the close of this context 5652, we accomplished both goals. The northern edge of the cut for pit 5629 was delineated, and the contamination backfill was removed until Thanasis was certain that we were in the fill (5614 and 5662) of the pit cut.
The removal of 5652 shows the northern edge of pit 5629 as well as a small step at 1044.70 N where we dug a small martyr to remove as much of the contamination as possible while leaving the fill as unexcavated as possible. The top plan for 5662 shows the location of the different elevations.
