Stratum:   40% inclusions: pebbles, cobbles: angular/spherical, roof tile fragments
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We excavated this context because upon the removal of 5712 and 5715, a floor was discovered that runs under deposits that 5729 overlies. As a result, we are excavating 5729 to maintain excavation methodology of "last in, first out." 5729 is cut to the east by a N-S oriented martyr that was created in the 1960's excavations and to the north by a scarp created during excavations in the south Stoa during the 20th century.
This gravel deposit may be the remmant of a path or floor. This type of gravel construction suggests an external space due to the ability for water to drain more effectively on such a surface. It is possible that 5729 is the same stratum as the earlier excavated 5401. There is a difference of .05m in there elevations and there is a gap of 3.40m between them.
The removal of 5729 revealed four deposits: 5738, 5734, 5740, and an unexcavated fourth deposit (5738 overlies part of this floor deposit). 5729 abuts 5731 to the west and has a similar elevation to the top of 5729. 5731 will be the next context excavated.
