| Notes: | Deposit 5739 is a layer of soft fill covering a floor surface up against the north wall in Quadrant B of the courtyard (5741). This fill appears to be leveling the surface along the wall where the floor underneath slopes down. The necessity of this fill deposit could be due to sinkage of foundation trench fill (and thus the floor) or possibly the result of a water gulley along the wall. A small patch of cement was revealed on the floor under 5739. The removal of the soft fill 5739 revealed that the floor surface uncovered at the bottom of deposit 5737 continues north to meet the wall. The abutting of the floor with wall 5741 (north wall of the courtyard is east continuation of wall 5463) demonstrates that the floor uncovered by the removal of the files 5734 and 5739 and the wall 5741 are in use together at one time. 5.6.08. Further excavation of the "slumping" floor surface revealed by the excavation of 5737 has shown that there was another floor (5797) just north of the drain. Removal of this floor 5797 revealed the true surface which we thought we had revealed with the excavation of 5737 and 5739. The floor slumps less now toward the south wall, but the effects of water erosion still cause it to slump some and thus the need for the soft leveling fill 5739. | |
