The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clay. | | Notes: | | Deposit context 577 is the same clay floor as deposit 576. This floor was cut by the construction of the 19th century boundary wall (2**) cut 272. Context 577 was also truncated by the pit 248. To the east is wall 540, which the floor deposit 576 abuts. The 1960's excavation to the North may have removed the north wall associated wit this floor. The western edge of the floor falls in alignment with the pier 573, as did 576. It is likely that the deposits 577 and 576 once formed a continuous surface extending westward from wall 540, with which they are associated to the pier 573 in the west. The a9th century boundary wall truncated the floor so that they are no longer contiguous.
