Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The context shape in plan is sub-rectangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: may continue southward; stopping point arbitrary as of 12.06.08.
Notes:   Cut 5794 was discovered as a subrectangular depression that seemed to truncate the N-S line of the robbing trench 5893, theft of Wall 5473. It was first noticed in the excavation of context 5886, but it seems likely that it postdates the robbing trench-- so the upper limits of the foundation trench 5894 remain unknown. The full extent of the cut is as yet unknown, but it appears to run N-S along the small wall spur just to the E of the robbing trench cut. There is a hard layer of fill within this area that may obscure the southward continuation of the foundation trench cut. There may also be more fills within this cut; its limits need further exploration to determine its function and its relationship to the robbing trench.
