Stratum:   50% fine-coarse pebbles, cobbles, pottery, bone, roof tile.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is light pinkish grey. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Deposit context 590 is a lens of sandy silt which backfilled the inside of the drain structure 426. 590 abutted the east and west stones of the drain. 590 is continuous along the path of the drain, even in sections where the drain is not preserved. The north end of 590 is cut by robbing trench cut 272. This fill does not appear to be use fill. Rather, it appears to be backfill that accrued in the drain before the drain was robbed out. 590 extended from the north end of the drain, sloping slightly towards the south end of the drain. The removal of 590 revealed a light yellowish brown lens of soil on the north side of the drain, which at this point we hypothesize to be the use fill of the drain. On the southern end of the drain, deposit 590 revealed grey clay. We hypothesize the white clay may be liner. Here, at the south end of the trench, we still have a line, but no stones and no holes where the stones were.
