| Description: | The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | Deposit overlays 5552 (superstructure=context 5922). As well as deposits 5954 and 5964 and structure 5965. The deposit was removed in preparation for excavation of deposit 5954. The context boundaries were quite clear since in the case of the wall and the structure, removal of the soil deposit revealed stone and in the case of deposits 5954 and 5964 a different color of soil was revealed (a light yellowish red rather than the dark yellowish brown of deposit 5918). Removal of the deposit revealed that there are three separate stratigraphic deposits overlayed by deposit 5918 two of which are located on either side of wall 5552, the third to the east of structure 5965. Wall 5552 is a foundation and thus later than the soil deposits surrounding it. The foundation must be removed before the earlier deposits can be excavated stratigraphically. The stratified deposits to the north and south of foundation wall 5552 and to the east of structure 5965 appear to be related: there is an obvious bright orange deposit that is exposed on the surface on the south side of the foundation on the east side of structure 5965, and in the section of the baulk on the north side of wall 5552. | |
