Description: | The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes: | we are excavating a balk left as a martyr by the 1960s excavations along the north side of foundation 5552. part of the foundation has been removed lready but part had to be left in order to prevent the collapse of the balk. We are excavating the balk in order to establish its chronological relationship to the balks on the south of foundation 5552 and the east of wall 5965. removal of deposit 5979 from the balk revealed two separate soil compositions. The easternmost edge of the balk (deposit 5984) appears to be a continuation of the foundation trench for wall 5965 (cut 5966, filled by 5968), cutting the remainder of the balk.
