| Description: | The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | Context 6003 located in northern part of room north of courtyard of Byzantine house. Appears to be a leveling fill and is being cleared at this time as part of program to reveal a large floor surface covering much of room, particularly western half. Removal of context 6003 clearly revealed a continuation of floor surface which had also been the case for removal of context 6001. Soil is dark yellowish brown clayey silt with 5% inclusions (ceramic sherds, stones). Heavy concentration of ash/charcoal near midpoint of context. This concentration kicked up from floor surface below. Dating of context 6003 and other contexts directly covering this floor surface will provide important information about occupation history of room. Removal of context 6003 did NOT reveal foundation trench for wall 5562, which must be at a lower level. Context 6003 appears to be one of the surfaces cut by context 5994 and associated fill 5993. | |
