Stratum:   Ceramic sherds (mainly tile fragments); stones (small to medium pebbles; rounded to sub-rounded; spherical to tabular); bone; 20% inclusions
Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6050 is fill inside cut 6045 and decided to excavate it at this point to reach bottom of cut. Located in northern part of courtyard of Byzantine house. A lot of bone recovered in context 6044, the fill above this, likely derives from this context instead.
Context 6050 distinguished from 6045 by change in color of soil to yellowish from reddish. Also produced fewer inclusions (c. 20%). Like context 6044 this could represent some type of construction fill associated with digging the well.
Dating this context and the fill above should provide important information toward interpreting the construction history of the courtyard.
As removal of context 6050 continued, however, appears more and more like this a pit cut by well.
