Description:   Structure materials: limestone/paving stone. Material size: 1.03 x .83 x .16; .65 x .31 x .21. Material finish: finished (paving surface);rough hewn weathered. Material construction: two single blocks. Material bonding: soil. Features: used to block an earlier doorway..
Notes:   These two large blocking stones were removed, as they were definitely a later addition to this wall since they blocked an earlier threshold. The blocks seem to have been re-used here and the larger of the two was origially a paving stone from the roman road.
Removal of this stone exposed fill 6278, the removal of which should reveal the threshold that this stone was intended to block.
Originally we believed that this structure consisted of just one stone, however, as we began to excavate the fill underneath, we realized that the threshold was wider than we originally though and there were actually two stones blocking it- the re-used paving stone and a smaller roughly hewn stone.
