Description:   Structure materials: limestone. Material size: l 1.4, w .46, d .12. Material finish: worked on top, cuttings for door jamb; squared. Material construction: even coursed. Material bonding: soil. Features: two cuttings to accommodate bolts/pivots; stairs?.
Notes:   This threshold has not been excavated but we are giving it a context number so we can refer to it in relation to other contexts. The threshold consists of three blocks; with the blocks on either end having cuttings to receive a door.
One of the stones blocking the threshold seems to be attached to one of the blocks making up 6190 therefore 6190 must also post date the threshold.
On the east-facing section, there are blocks that appear to create a first step downward, suggesting that stairs may have once existed in conjunction with this context (see form for drawing, not to scale). The floor surface exposed as a result of context 6296 appears to have gone together with this threshold and with wall 6300. Wall 6120 seems also to have separated that surface from another, different stratum located further to the north and lying under contexts 6306, 6309, and 6317.
In plan, the threshold is comprised of three blocks, which have symmetrical L-shape cuttings, thus:
