Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We are excavating sub-surface 6292 in order to more properly understand the various relationships in this area of the room; namely, the relationships between threshold 6285, paving 6190, and the various surface levels ending with 6292. This operation is being undertaken after cleaning context 5284. This fill goes over the top of the paving stones and is therefore later than both paving stones and threshold.
When the context had been fully removed, we noticed the following new relationships and features: 1) There was a hard, pebbly surface that was strikingly similar to the surface revealed at the end of excavating bothros fill 6263 (i.e. it is below cut 6264) 2) there was, overall a change to more compacted soil, which appears to run under the paving stones both to the east and perhaps to the north 3) It's possible that one of the exposed surfaces might be the highest stratified surface to go with eastern threshold 6285. One of our goals will be to try to expose more of that to the north, in the other floor series in contexts underlying 6285. One of our goals will be to try to expose more of that to the north, in the other floor series in contexts underlying 6258
[while 6292 revealed a floor surface, 6303 did not reveal a floor surface. This shows that the series of floors above 6303 were an outer surface outside wall 6120 and NOT that ]6303 and 6292 were an equal floor punched through by a wall. 6292 goes up to the edge of 6120 and was therefore in use when the wall was in use; this is not the case for 6303- there do not seem to be further surfaces under 6303.
